12 months is a long time in football. However, when it comes to watching former England boss Steve McClaren having the mother of all commentary failures, a year has not dulled the comedy effect.

For those of you who don't remember, June 27th 2016 was the day that England were knocked out of Euro 2016, beaten 2-1 by the footballing giants of Iceland.

It was a dark, terrible day for English football, as Roy Hodgson's side produced one of the worst performances in Three Lions history.

However, while the result was dreadful, the Sky Sports News coverage was genuinely, wonderfully brilliant.

Why? Because it featured McClaren – a man synonymous with rubbish England results – cheering everyone up with this momentously unfortunate bit of commentary:

Over in Iceland, they had commentators completely losing it after Kolbeinn Sigthorsson's winner… but McClaren's reporting was a bit different.

He seemed fairly happy with the Three Lions' reaction to being pegged back early on.

"[England are] dominating the game," he said. "Down the right hand side, Sterling and Walker are causing them all sorts of problems.

"It's been the perfect response, no problems, you start again and keep dominating, keep getting pressure on the Iceland back four.

"The only thing that they have got is the big boy up front, Sigthorsson…"

And it was at that exact point that Sigthorsson rolled the ball under Joe Hart to give Iceland the lead.

Almost on cue.

McClaren's face falls.

He looks away from the screen.

He's rendered speachless.

We all were Steve. We all were.
